Thinking of getting away from Microsoft and all mainstream software.

I used to use Ubuntu back in 08, is it better now? And is it based?

Ditch Microsoft at all costs.

I recommend Mint or plain old Debian over Ubuntu. Also would recommend you get to the point where you can get away from systemd which is wannabe windows.

If you want based you need to go with Temple OS.

No totally pozzed. Creator Linus Torvalds was cancelled by his kernel community guidelines. Debian is literally named after the original nerd's wife who did nothing and was the bastion of marxism before it was cool. Ubuntu is a Bantu word because(!!?) it was founded by a (fellow?) White South African.

It goes on and on. I blame Software Bolshevism.

All the truth ^

Look for a distro without systemd.

This man is trolling or stupid. I have been using linux since 1996, please don't say anything stupid, it's very irritating.

Linux, if set up correctly is indeed extremely based. Message me if you need a hand.

My daily driver has been Linux for a couple years now. I do all internet, graphics, office type of work, etc on here. Oh, and it's our home media center. Wired and wireless devices and monitors in several rooms, all works fine. Only command line things I have to do regularly are turning on Nord at startup and the driver for my graphic tablet, and it's minor. And I am not a tech guy, either. I do keep a W7 rig for architectural work and the occasional game. If you are on the fence, just grab any 8+ GB thumbdrive and make a bootable image on there and give it a whirl.

"make a bootable image on there".

I think you ARE a tech guy. If you ask 90% of the population to make a bootable image on their 8+GB thumbdrive, you are going to get a blank stare back. Sure they might be able to figure it out if they google it and follow the instructions, but they will be close to going off the rails the entire time, and not really understand any of what they are doing. The second something happens that isn't explicitly in the instructions they are lost.

Linux is great for some things, but I'd personally never recommend it to an actual non-technical user, a minimal amount of their existing windows knowledge is going to be transferable, there is a good chance anything they want to install is not going to work on Linux, and the second something stops working they are going to be blocked. If they go to friends/family for help, unless someone there happens to know linux, no one will be able to help them.

google it and follow the instructions

This is precisely what I did. Not Joogle of course, but searched. I think you are over estimating the difficulty, it really is as simple as loading some songs on a thumbdrive to test drive Linux these days, and there is no danger to your existing OS.

I used to boot it off a thumb drive back in 08 so I’m familiar. No biggie.

The only reason modern tech is confusing is because it’s needlessly complex and made to be confusing and as proprietary as possible.

There's a lot more boot drive creators out there now: YUMI, LiLi, PenDriveLinux, UNetbootin, and all of them are very easy to use. Some of them even download the image automatically, so there's no messing around with getting the right image.

Plus there's a lot more info on the net for the amateur Linux user, as Windows 10 pushed a lot of people away with all of its bullshit.

Literally smoke signals are better than windows. Fuck whether it's based or not, get of that globalist nightmare called an os.

Linux is just an OS. An OS shouldn't be woke, or based. It should just function as required.

As for Ubuntu, it is better, but waning in popularity. If you still want something Ubuntu/Debian based, then you're better off trying Mint.

been using ubuntu 18.x, set dual-boot with win 10 on the same disk, passed down between craigslist 100 dollar laptops for a few years: xxx@corei5:/etc$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS Release: 18.04 Codename: bionic

Why? It boots fast. No windoze I only boot into win 10 if I need to use a custom driver (i.e. hp printer / scanner), which is almost never. You can do everything on Linux. Do a youtube search on setting your windows laptop up as dual-boot(you just need to create a partition for the Linux OS, you don't need much unless you are planning on storing a lot of shit on it, say 50 GB). Do it, you won't regret it, build skills

So far so good with Mint, Ubuntu and Manjaro on my end. I like it. Fuck windows.

If any of you faggots speaks ill of linux without merit, I will split your dick in half and invert it into your torso.

No nothing has changed. Still sucks.

People build some of the greatest software for free, giving you an alternative to potential tyranny, and you sit there in your soiled little faggot chair saying it "still sucks" by comparing it to the product of near-trillion dollar companies. The best course of action for your pathetic existence is to install OpenSUSE Tumbleweed in a VM and decide if your disrespect merits suicide.

From 08 to now? Are you on crack you fucking gimp lmao
