I remember that :)

I just moved further North, closer to the gold fields. Got a place with a shed, and I am going to use that shed this summer to strip a few boxes of electronics using chemicals to harvest the gold from them. I figure there's at least two ounces there. I want to get the technique down pat, figure out all the costs and time involved, etc. I need to buy a scale too. Couple of other items. It's just a hobby for now, but one that pays.

I may pour my own gold bars too. Why not? I need a torch for that.

All the rivers around here are filled with trout, but these areas are known for gold too. It's all Canadian Shield, crisscrossed with rivers. I'll be doing a lot of trout fishing hopefully, and bring along a pan to test the river beds as I explore the region. Many of the largest gold deposits in the history of gold mining were found within a five hour drive of this location. I need to study the geology. I need to study more geology in general.

I'm also thinking about a metal detector. Now's as good a time as any other.

Maybe I'll get lucky, find a big nugget and buy myself an island.

sounds like an excellent plan. ive been collecting gold fingers and processors too. figured i could always process them one day when the motivation strikes me. been trying to leverage the wifes love of thriftshops to gather up sterling silver and karat gold. i hear its more profitable than ewaste, but both are good to know

are you thinking of going off grid? build a cabin, greenhouse, etc?

panning and snorkeling and scuba diving bedrock streams looks like a great past time. or just fishing. its the thrill of the chase.

I'm a little too old for long term off grid adventures if I can avoid them. Going camping is another thing entirely.

I chose the rural fringe because it offers the best of both words for me. I still enjoy all the comforts of modern civilization, without the crime and pollution of the city. If I need to go into the bush, it is only a few hours from here.

Plus, I'm buying my food farm direct now. Groceries are more expensive here, but I buy a lot less in a supermarket than I used to. I can still get medicine, vitamins, dental services, etc. I can order a pizza. Get a drink. Whatever I need.

Here the air and water is clean, and I don't have 7 million cars driving by my house every day. There's excellent fishing in all directions. To me it's already paradise.

However, following the sun suggests a possible big move down to the equator may be in my future. I'm keeping an eye on that developing scenario. Poll flip and all that. I'm thinking Panama maybe. The last time something like that happened this place was under a couple of miles of ice. If it's happening again, then we cannot stay here.

Yes unfortunately it looks like it may happen in our lifetimes. I have been studying up on it with Suspicious0bservers weathermans guide to the sun textbook and videos. Nothing we can really do about it other than learn skills to live without electricity if we survive at all.

I am applying for work in rural Appalachia, where I can homestead in peace. Milder winters, lots of trees and clean water. Good farming community and less subhumans than cali.

Good move to buy direct from farmers. Its one of the last tight knit communities of White folks and the best source for clean, healthy food.
