Throughout history actors were considered the dregs of society because they deserved it. Cecil B. DeMille and a few foolish white guys cleaned up Hollywood and made actors respectable for a short time between 1935-65. The actors and their management responded to their improved standing in society by destroying DeMille's career and by striking down all semblance of propriety and moral codes in the late sixties.
