A woodframe house is flexible. Maybe the first floor floor isn't up to spec. If the floor is bouncing up and down like the skin on a drum, it will cause the walls to move. Maybe the people who built your building didn't use any cross-bracing between the floor joists. Maybe I'm not a medium with a crystal ball, and I can't peer into the unknown.
