  1. Allowed the British Army to evacuate at Dunkirk instead of holding them for ransom in exchange for demanding a status quo antebellum peace from the western Allies, thereby allowing him to focus on the east.
  2. Didn’t purge the generals like he had in all other government departments. They lied to him about progress and disobeyed his orders when he was laid up with typhus, which meant that Stalingrad wasn’t taken in time.
  3. Didn’t allow the peoples of the freed nations of the USSR to establish their own temporary governments, instead continuing German military occupation (and military governorship). This caused resentment among the tens of millions who’d considered the Germans liberators, and it not only tied up more German military forces, it lost them the manpower of the potential hundreds of thousands of volunteers to push further into the Soviet Union.
