From a guy named Thomas Smith. I have his discharge papers, the ribbon of the unit he was in and letters of recommendation. He was wounded in the . He was an officer in the 49th Ohio volunteer infantry and after he was wounded he was discharged on July 23, 1862 from Columbus, Ohio. Who would I take this to to have the stuff appraised? They have a museum there, but they are non-profit. I was just going to donate the stuff, but my elderly neighbor who is a vet told me I could be holding a good chunk of money.

So, Poal, any ideas?

Pretty neat. Where did you find it?

It was with my mom's stuff when she died in 2017. She also had letters from Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant, but they were stolen from my mother's stuff when my little sister was dying last year. It sucks. I have drug addicts in my family and they stole a bunch of my mom's and sisters stuff, including jewelry and old coins and silver certificate bills and my sister wouldn't tell me she was being taken advantage of. If you're interested is the info I found on the dude in question. Thomas Smith. It's about half way down the page on page 498.
