I'm acutely aware that death is coming for me and that I have relatively little time left. Therefore my time has become very precious and my choices really matter. I think one must get to a certain age before the fact that death is coming for you becomes very real and not just a , oh yeah , some day I'm gunna die thought.

Death is an abstraction to almost everybody. It's the only way we can make it through a day. If people actually started to realize that no matter what they do in life, it will eventually come to nothing, and they will be forgotten, they would kill themselves out of the sheer futility of it all. The only way to get through life is to block mortality from your mind, or find faith in an afterlife ... or a combination of both.

I've often thought about my Grandparents , two of the kindest , most decent people I've ever known. After I'm gone , they won't even be a memory

Conciousness goes on after death. You'll see them again. Just on another plain of existence.
