Any sculpters here, I've been putting about 30 minutes a day into zBrush, getting some ok results. My lips always end up looking duck lipped or classic cock sucker mouth, you know the type. Also I feel my ear placement is off. I'm getting the helix and anterior helix alright, but the placement and lobe/conc proportion is off. Any good advice on head feature proportion and or angles?

Sculpt your own face. Then find an attractive face. And try to copy it. You will see differences. Also take a photo of your face. And in photo shop cut the right side of your face and mirror it. Then the same for your left. And compare it to your normal. You begin to see what variants seem natural and what seems fcked. Also.

This is a fucked up paraphrase. An author once re wrote by hand someone else's master piece to feel what it was like to write a great novel. Go ahead. Steal everything that works and make it your own.

Cool, I'll try that. Symmetry of faces generally are more pleasing to look at, so I get that. I keep forgetting I got my own mug to look at if need be. :) any good sites or pdfs you would recomend for anatomy in regards to art?

Yes. But its in moving boxes. So I don't have names for you. He offers classes online like 4k to take them. The $30 book is amazing resource tho. Just copy. Steal and take everything you can. If you feel weird stealing so much. Just watch Kirby's everything is a remix. Also as a fast rule tip of the nostril to tip of the eye and tip of earlobe. In profile should make a nice triangle on properly proportioned people.

Follow up question, sorry. When do you start your secondary and tertiary details? And what do you concentrate on for that? Normally my 30 min block gets me to the secondary stuff of hardening some edges and crisping up some face folds, so I haven't really had a lot of experience doing skin pores and eyelids/corners. I guess the real question is, what are you looking for between those stages and say, ok, next beauty pass.

Are you canuck? Sorry. Depends on what you are doing this for. If you want hyper realism and to get it there. Watch YouTube of the z brushers. And watch the oil painters layer. All digital medium is built to mimic what artist do irl. Side bar. Dodge tool in photoshop... in real life is just a piece of card you cut out to Block light exposing your print. Normally attached to a stick.

So. While you practice. What are your goals? You are making head way. Just steer the ship for your own destination.

Are you implying that is ugly?

I am assuming he doesn't get a hard on looking in the mirror.

haha. Maybe he's a narcissist.

"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the sexiest of them all?

Oh, me again?!"

And you should do the homework assignment too. He is worried about ear placement when there isn't a right answer. The best answer is... use the nose and eyes as a guide.
