Anyone who thinks they can keep carpet clean has never removed old carpet. That shit is nasty
Also coincided with the shift toward having dogs in the house instead of children. I like hard floors, they're easy to clean. But it's so much nicer for the kids to have some carpet to thrash around on when they're small.
To me, it seems like carpet was a 1960s-1990s thing. I've lived in houses of varying vintages, and those years listed seem to be the ones that had carpet when built, at least consistently. Before that it was wood, ceramic, asbestos, or early linoleum tile, wood and other types seem to be popular again.
A good wood floor will last centuries if cared for. Carpet wears and gets dirt under it no matter how well you care for it.
Agree, carpet scuks and wears out. Bitch to keep clean. Plus you dont get cats sliding around chasing their toys. Endless entertainment.
Carpet is fucking gross. You can't possibly clean it all the way, so you're just walking on dead skin cells, and dirt and grime. Yuck.
dirt and grime? don't wear your shoes inside..
I don't. Still you can't stop it. Every time I had an apartment with carpet I had to vacuum every day. With wood and tile, you can clean twice a week- AND actually get everything. Carpet everything you cant get just falls down to the bottom and stays. People who walk bear foot on carpet shouldn't be allowed to vote.
so you're just walking on dead skin cells, and dirt and grime
And insects, lots and lots of tiny little insects.
Carpeting is the filthiest thing you can put in your house.
Tell me about it,I sell vacuum cleaners.
,I sell vacuum cleaners.
What model do you recommend for value?
I remember that Dyson can beat Kirby models outright and were considered the best 15 years ago. They have an upright that can hold enough suction tp pick up a bowling ball. My roommate years ago worked sales at Kirby and had a customers vacuum shut down his sales pitch. (When he quit we kept his sales kirby as I convinced the company he moved away with it. And Kirby sales practices are scum.)
Hover-Best price,best performance,best life,easy to maintain.
You won't be sorry.
I had a friend who made really good money hanging high end wallpaper, but then wallpaper went out of style.
In the 1970's, carpeting the walls was a thing. Anybody else old enough to remember it? Originally for soundproofing in living-rooms, then a fashion statement. Even Elvis approved. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/553802085402918272/
I think it depends on where you live. Carpet is more popular in colder climates
Carpet is for fucking savages. Gross as fuck.
