I'm not trying to denigrate you at all but you should know Carlos Castaneda admitted that Don Yuan was a fiction he dreamt up and not a real life shaman.
He also had a haram at the end of his life (actually I'm kind of jealous of that) which suggests he ran a cult of personality.

The story is most likely fictional, but there are truths in there IMO.
