The dude you're arguing with claims he is part of a worker cooperative successful enough to allow him to retire early and travel the world. Ignoring how ironically bougie that would be, it's clearly a lie given he, like every other socialist, can't seem to grasp these basic facts.
The biggest mistake they make is conflating themselves as individual with "the work". Yes, "the work" does need to be done, and "adds value" to the company. But the worker, the actual individual, is able to be replaced by a billion people. Or soon enough, robots.

One of my first jobs as a child was washing cars for people in the neighborhood. A few guys had some really nice cars. One guy I remember had a corvette and this was the 1980s so they were still cool. But at no point in my mind did I ever think to myself "So what if he worked and took 5 years to save up the money to buy this nice car....I pushed a sponge across it for 10 minutes so it deserves to be mine"

The reason we need socialism is because it demolishes the economy, ushers in a totalitarian age, and then the original idiot socialists are the first ones put up against the wall and shot. I’m willing to put up with oppression for a generation just so their stupidity can be culled.
