Distraction and routine breaker. Looks like he was anticipating talking to the customer before getting out as he already had the package in the cab instead of getting it from the back. And so intent on the customer he actually walks around the cab door as it forces him to move slightly backwards, totally unaware of his movement. Same type of fractured focus that happens when driving and talking on a cell phone.

Rural people keep a water tank. They use one pump to pull the water up from the well, pump it int the tank. Then there is a pressure tank usually smaller (not the big one) then that give you water pressure in the house. Or some other type of combination of those items, depends on how sophisticated and how much trouble it is to pull the water up from the well.
