It's about status. They dated Marilyn Manson because he has high social status and then got pissed off because he's edgy and weird.

I agree that they knew exactly what they were getting into ... why wouldn’t they? I knew a sibling of a friend of a boyfriend of mine that was stalked by him before he was famous and yes ... anyone with half a brain always knew.
