When I get the money I intend to put a new drive into my computer for the purpose of installing Linux. I'm probably going to use Mint or Fedora

Mint is more Windowish and makes the transition easier. That's the one I first used when I went Linux and switched to Ubuntu a year or so ago. You don't really need a new drive to try out Linux, just an ~8gb USB drive and you are good to go.

Highly recommend. You can do it that way and leave your W OS intact on that rig even. USB inserted on boot = Linux. Out = W.
