Oh, I still had a fine vacation. I caught a ton of sideways glances from the whole fucking family, but I was high at the beach, so fuck it.

Oh, and no problem. I think everyone should ask as many questions as possible. And legitimately listen to the answer if they choose not to yell at you instead.

Questions are almost always safer than statements when discussing "sensitive" topics. More often than not, the other person will be more open because they feel like they have an obligation to teach you something. That's why you should actually listen. They're telling you what they actually believe.
