and if the site was flooded with downvoates then the character of the users is clearly seen. whereas with upvoats people can get away with more farming and sliding easier/less'detection'

I liked the downvote, as I could save time by skipping topics I may not have been interested in, by noting the ratio of downvotes to upvotes. 15 upvotes doesn't mean it's a popular/well-written post, if there's 20 downvotes. But when in Rome............... I'm grateful for Poal for letting us in.
I find Poalsters don't use the upvote to the degree that Voatsters did.
