with downvotes poals content is pruned or effectively curated unlike what the upvote can do.

this remind me of the human brain and youtube. both achieve greater success when a filter or selectivity is employed. i also block users from time to time when they are found to incite issues.

and also, do any of you tell people in public about poal?

We try to only down-vote SPAM here, as has been discussed before. Overuse of the up-vote button will also be flagged as manipulation. The admins were talking about adding a "fuck you" button, but I don't know what came of it.

what came of it is people want it to be a jewstar. along the lines of what im saying, people want a jewstar to indicate a post is fishy. "fuck you"s can be exchanged but it doesnt have meaning. to put worthwhile meanign on such button would really,, need to be a jew star.

The downvote is a type of speech, but it doesn't promote free speech. Is shouting at people who are trying to speak free speech? The curation you desire would mean suppressing some speech with other speech.

You could at least not pretend you're advocating for free speech. Freedom can be quite messy. What did you think it was? I think you'd have a stronger argument if you could at least see this in terms of tradeoffs about freedom versus organized information.

I liked the downvote, as I could save time by skipping topics I may not have been interested in, by noting the ratio of downvotes to upvotes. 15 upvotes doesn't mean it's a popular/well-written post, if there's 20 downvotes. But when in Rome............... I'm grateful for Poal for letting us in.

I find Poalsters don't use the upvote to the degree that Voatsters did.
