I've been on a number of health kicks over the years. Never felt I had a big problem with sugar.
Did a full organic / natural diet with mostly veggies and lean meats, no processed stuff and during that time also did quite a long fast (10 days) of water only.
The strangest thing happened after my fast. I could now taste even the smallest amount of sugar. Like in "regular" loaf type bread or most baked goods. Forget about cakes etc....waaaay too sweet. Any drinks besides water tasted syrupy sweet to me. I found I lost the desire for sweets in general (cookies, candy bars etc) and specifically places where I would add sugar before, no longer wanted it (iced tea, pancakes / waffles).
I have since normalized and can handle regular sweet foods, but have never gone back to using sugar except in baking some things.
What I found out doing extensive reading is most westerners are at some level addicted to sugar. It is so prevalent in our foods and drinks that our bodies ecosystem becomes dependent on it, creating the sugar cravings many talk about.
Turns out that fast I did ended that cycle of sugar dependence. IIRC it is intestinal or gut microbes that create the dependency loop and it is bad for you. But you can totally break it. Even shorter fasts can have a big impact on breaking the cycle. That 10 day fast was pretty long and intense, but a 3 day fast is very doable, especially if you prepare for it starting a week ahead of time.
Fasts do more than a body reset, they give you a mental strength knowing you can go without food for X days and be totally fine. It's crazy powerful.
Last note. If dealing with diet issues, I highly recommend you introduce some apple cider vinegar in your diet. It helps introduce good stuff in you gut / intestines and helps digestion a great deal. Bragg's the brand I use. Works for most stomach related issues our family has (constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, gas, stomach ache etc).
Hope this helps.
I never made a fast, but someday a friend said you don't really taste coffee when you put sugar on it. So I tried it without sugar, the first time was weird, but I insisted. And holy fuck, he was correct. I'm talking about black coffee. Maybe I started enjoying bitter, idk. Then I started reducing the amount of sugar with other things naturally, and the natural sweets became more evident. I still use sugar, but much less than before.
Yeah that is like what happens after you fast. You can barely stand added sugar. Takes while to get used to the regular sugar added in so many foods. For me the longer the fast, the more pronounced the effects. I have done 3,5,7 and 10 ten fasts.
I think a fast is one thing everyone should try at least once unless there is some major medical reason not to. It is akin to doing a vision quest / spirit walk type deal. If done right, you will gain a control and mastery over your body, putting your mind / spirit (soul) firmly in charge. It's like a muscle most people have never used. Once you know it's there and even develop it, it unlocks all kinds of hidden strength and power.
Not trying to get new agey or weird. Legit, makes a difference in your life, more so if you are in tune somehow with your spiritual side.
