If you post a link here, and click on it from the same browser, you're telling them where you got the link from. If you got that link from a red-flagged site, they know to scrub that information.
You all REALLY need to be using separate browsers and copy-paste links instead.
Hi MrGuy, can you give an example of this?
Sure:
See a link on Poal
Click Link (from same browser)
Browser takes you to link
The website for the link that you went to gets the referrer URL that you clicked
In other words: if you click a link on Poal to Twitter, Twitter will know that you clicked on that link from Poal. This is a standard function of HTTP.
There are a few ways around this:
Open a new browser with a blank URL and copy paste: Result is no referrer.
Use TinyURL or something to mask the source: Result is that the referrer is TinyURL and not Poal.
Obfuscate by trying to access a fake website first (www.com) to get a 404, and then paste link: Result is no referrer.
Thank you for the detailed explanation, much appreciated!
