The 'lobby' promoting it was based on the ridiculous claim of preventing masturbation. After several studies were publicized concluding circumcision was medically unnecessary, starting in 1983, **Thomas Wiswell, M.D.** (Wiswell is a common Jewish surname) began to produce a series of egregiously flawed studies that claimed circumcision reduced the incidence of urinary tract infections. The reasoning switched from the 75 year claim of preventing masturbation to preventing urinary infections. All of Wiswell’s studies have long since been thoroughly discredited.
