I think its a reasonable idea that nigger and kike in subject lines are nsfw. Many of the Voat users commenting in that thread said they primarily use voat at work.
Execution was very poor. He did it without an announcement. He should have also recognized that many people hide NSFW content to hide the onslaught of porn, and made a distinction between the two.
I think also if you're going to do something like that, it doesn't make sense to limit it to system subs only. That would be like saying we're going to filter porn posts as nsfw, but only on our default subs. Your all/new would still be full of what you wanted to filter so it's pointless.
