The left is a result of times of excess. I'd imagine that you can directly correlate liberalism with the rise of money printing and credit expansion. It seems like this has been true in other areas of the world where it became communist. They become detached from anything real or logical because their existence does not depend on it. The society begins to feed on itself then it dies or changes.
