There was a track-ready miata in town when I was in high school like you're describing. It looked completely normal, too. I always liked the idea of a sleeper car.
I love the old trail 90. The way the frame is the snorkel made it extra capable, for what it was. The new trail 125 lost all the coolness of the old models.
I'm 6'2" but fit in it well enough. People do double takes when I get out. Hard top doesn't even reach my belly button. It's always funny to see that reaction.
It's going to be semi-sleeper with the cage. Already the roll bar, Bride seats, and detachable steering wheel looks like I'm up to something. I hate poser cars with detachable wheels but when you have high bolster seats in a Miata it's basically a necessity.
I'm picturing my giant of a father getting in and out of the vettes I used to drive!
I've given my dad a ride. I'll just say it's not an old(er) person car. He had a hard time getting in/out the passenger seat. Not comfortable. Not a daily driver. It's I wanna go fast and feel the road.
Speaking of him, he always rode Harleys back in the day. We were in the mountains and his stater took a shit. The bike wouldn't start, but it would push-start. Heading back to the hotel, his battery got low enough the engine wouldn't run right. He had to coast a long way down the mountain. I remember sticking my feet out forward to push on his bumper from my bike to get him through the flat spots.
