Damn dude! Definitely not in that league but I'm good enough to have a blast and get in trouble.
I look back and cringe at how lucky I was to never get caught in high speed chases or die from doing anything stupid. None of it is meant as a brag, more of a warning to our 18-25 year old members. Now I have my 50, a ural gear-up, and I'm in the market for a tw200 since that's the best bike every made! I love all these little 300 class sportbikes on the market now, too. I'd love to absolutely wring-out a mt-03 in some curves. It'd be like running the shit out of a miata, feels fast but you're not breaking any laws.
What do you like about the TW200? I looked it up and it seems pretty cool. As I said earlier I don't trust myself on a powerful street bike but I'm cool with something like that. I've had my eye on a KTM Duke. Rocked a Honda Ruckus for awhile.
Factoid: A standard large pizza box will wedge perfectly in the floor pan of a Ruckus.
Funny you say the ruckus. I had an ex-hippie professor back in the day who used to talk about exactly how much beer or whatever his ruckus could haul. I watched a video recently of 2 guys who took them across some long rocky mountain trail. You can have fun on anything, I guess.
The TW (T-dub) is just an indestructible little tractor. It's actually sold by yamaha as an agricultural machine. At my weight, I could gear it a little taller to easily maintain 65mph on the highway without losing the low end since 1st is sooo low. Those fat tires kill in sandy creek bottoms and make it pretty sweet in the twisties (for what it is). You wanna turn it around, pop the clutch and pull it around. The TW is both retarded and retardedly fun. I feel it would keep me safer than other dual sports.
I've ridden big bikes like the xr650, so I have no problem with a tall bike. My current bike has rear drive (duh) and also sidecar drive making it super fun in the snow. It's a blast on gravel and hills and mild offroading. Plus, i can take the dog or my whole family on it.
Haha! I have a first gen Miata. '95. The turbo motor parts are sitting in my garage. Block is bored out and just needs assembly. All the chassis work is done. Lowered with polyurethane everything. Thing rides on rails. It's got a roll bar but I'm not putting the new motor in until it's fully caged. Easy 400+hp in the future. Gonna be a little demon of a car. Even with stock motor I scare the shit out of people. Like you were basically saying fun isn't necessarily about speed. But how you go about that counts.
Still rocking my 2003 Suzuki RM250 occasionally. Had a 2001 Honda CR250 before that. My dad just bought a 1970 Honda trail 90 as a gas sipping SHTF bike haha. I like the 2-strokes. Lightweight and like a wild horse kind of feeling when you're riding.
There was a track-ready miata in town when I was in high school like you're describing. It looked completely normal, too. I always liked the idea of a sleeper car.
I love the old trail 90. The way the frame is the snorkel made it extra capable, for what it was. The new trail 125 lost all the coolness of the old models.
