I want to get a new small pickup, one with an extended cab. Preferably a 4 cylinder

I've been keeping my eyes out for Toyota pickups, Nissan Frontiers and Ford Rangers.

I currently have a Toyota Pickup but it has a regular cab and I really need the extra space for tools. I wouldn't mind getting another Toyota, but I've been keeping my options open.

Which of the 3 pickups would you choose and why? And if you have suggestions for other similar pickups that would look nice as a business truck then feel free to share

Toyota Tacoma. If you want something that will last you for 20 years.

Think about the Toyota you have. How long has it lasted and has it had many problems? Toyota's retain value for a long time. So if you do want to sell it down the road and have taken decent care of it, you'll be able to get a portion of that price back.

Fords and Chevy's will die long before a Toyota gives up on you.

Don't even consider anything made by dodge...

Yea but with Toyota it just rusts away so you don't even need to worry about selling it

I havent had a toyota rust away in a long time.

Beds and cabs are pretty easy to replace on them if they do and can occasionally be found in yards. Not to mention cheaper than engine / transmission problems your going to have with that ecoboost engine, or the shitvrolet.

I had a Nissan back in the day. It was a good little truck. 2000 I think.

I personally wouldn't want anything newer than '06, something with a manual transmission, manual everything if it's for work. Ford Ranger or Mazda B-series is what I'd be looking for. Get one with six cylinders you'll do pretty well on gas, even if you're towing. Parts are plentiful, and if you can't do it yourself you won't get raped by a mechanic. Added bonus is there's no embedded GPS. You can still be tracked by traffic and dash cams, but it's a lot easier to drop off the grid for a weekend if you want to.

As much as I enjoy Fords, Toyota has generally made better, longer lasting cars.

Just don't buy anything new, all the new shit coming out of Japan is trash garbage. Nissan CVT transmissions are so fucked they had to roll out KIA levels of warranty on them. Toyota is using the same factories to make their transmissions now, and their quality plummeted. Honda still makes the best engines but are slipping up pretty much everywhere else so I would only buy generators from Honda, personally. I figure you know all of this but it's important to complain about for those who don't lol

What ever you do, search around for a good model year. Personally I stay away from anything older than 05, because the A pillars started getting too thick and now you have blind spots in FRONT of you. I've almost hit pedestrians in one parking lot in my area because they get 100% blocked by the A pillar in my hatchback due to how chunky it is and the angle of approach.

If you wanna carry a big load buy a Chevy

If you wanna swallow a big load buy a ford

Just purchased a 2008 ford ranger, 5 speed manual, contractor's canopy w/roof rack. 130,000 km 10k. No extended cab tho, which is what I wanted but I like it. Everything goes in the back and is easily accessible from the side of the canopy.

Tacoma is nice, so not interested in the Chevy Colorado

Old Nissan Patrol. Kick ass vehicles. Reliable and great off road.

Safari is bigger and the longer wheel base is actually better for off road, but the Patrol is better for city driving and it just looks fucking awesome.

We didnt get the patrol in the US, so he would have to find an imported one and pay a premium for it because of the import.

I do agree though, the Patrol was a good little SUV. I drove one around in the middle east for a couple years.

Any of them you pick will be good. One is not really better than the other despite what people will have you believe. Just test drive them and pick the one you like most.

I know u said small but an old f150 is really good and the extra space would help.. but Toyota Tacoma is great

That's funny cause after I posted this I was looking through craigslist and saw some F150's and was thinking of adding that to the list here. They seem to be decent trucks but at the same time they're a bit bigger than what I'm looking for. I do groundskeeping and my trailer is a 4x6" so my setup is pretty compact. Gas is one of my biggest bills so I try to keep my setup lightweight

The Tacoma is a lethargic, tiny, gasholic, overpriced piece of shit. Worst truck I've ever driven in my life. I had always loved them until I drove one What a terrible disappointment. My Dad bought a new 2019 F150 and got it out the door for 32k. Its only the 2.7 ecoboost, but it's way more fun than the Tacoma, bigger, more comfortable, better hauling capabilities and better gas mileage. The warranty is decent too. I would choose any half ton over a Tacoma. They are underwhelming, underperforming and extremely overpriced.
