I remember growing up that when someone uses the word impeaching a president it solely meant to remove a sitting president from office.

But looking at wikipedia it now has a wider meaning to include taking a public official (whether sitting or retired) to court.

The term impeachment comes from the Constitution. It’s the legislative equivalent of an indictment.

After indictment or impeachment, charges are then brought to trial where there are arguments heard and then a decision to either convict or acquit.

Impeachment doesn’t mean to remove from office, and never has. Bill Clinton was impeached but not convicted. Nixon wasn’t ever impeached. Andrew Johnson was impeached and not convicted. Trump was impeached and acquitted twice.

Its quite clear in the constitution that Impeachment is for The President (not former President). Also the outcome of an impeachment is "removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States", notice how it says "AND", not "AND/OR". This is quite clear in the constitution. They can take Trump to court, but what they are doing now is now called "Impeachment", Trump has served his full term.

Article I, Section 3, Clauses 6 and 7 provide:

The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two-thirds of the Members present. Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States; but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.

You’re a fucktard. Impeachment concludes when the House votes to either impeach or not. If they opt not to, it’s the same as a grand jury deciding not to move forward with a trial.

There’s a fucking list of various office holders, including judges, who have been impeached over the last 200 plus years. Only a handful were removed from office after CONVICTION in the Senate, and none of them were Presidents.

The process can be enacted after leaving office as a method to prevent the former office holder from being denied opportunity to hold any other. This is why Ford pardoned Nixon after he resigned, to prevent Nixon from being impeached.

When I was young I was always told that impeachment was just debating on whether charges should be brought against the sitting President.

Everyone made it explicitly clear that Nixon was impeached but he resigned before further action could commence.

However, what it seems like in the past 4 years, every spic I knew thought "impeachment" ment Trump was getting escorted out of the White House that very day because they watch Haim Saban's Univision controlled news that pumps them full of pro Hillary propaganda right after Power Rangers is over.
