Either you failed civics, or your civics teacher failed you.
The term impeachment comes from the Constitution. It’s the legislative equivalent of an indictment.
After indictment or impeachment, charges are then brought to trial where there are arguments heard and then a decision to either convict or acquit.
Impeachment doesn’t mean to remove from office, and never has. Bill Clinton was impeached but not convicted. Nixon wasn’t ever impeached. Andrew Johnson was impeached and not convicted. Trump was impeached and acquitted twice.
