There are worst fates, but no that sounds awful. At least try and put up a fight, it might inspire everyone else lined up at the ditch to fight too even if it means you die on your feet.
I'm not so concerned about myself. Being absent from the body and present with the Lord sounds alright by me. It's what would happen to my wife and children after my departure that has me fully committed to staying as alive as possible.
There are many worse ways to go.
