The political system is the problem: when it's acceptable to use corporate funding to sway people's opinions, and people are stupid enough to listen to corporate-funded messages, wielding political influence becomes a standard part of doing business. The other side of engaging in politics is just corporations advertising their support for various issues. Again, in a better world people would be very wary of such messages.
