You can swap hosts. There's some that for the price of a coffee a month you can either host a landing page or save a wakandite.

running a single page message site is much cheaper than running a full site, he can probably do that

The site might be shutdown, but the domain registration is going to still be active. It will cost very little to run a static page.

Usually, these are yearly contracts where you can add and remove features on the fly without penalty if the contract remains open.
