  1. Does it make any difference how long the engine has been off? Should I always check it, say, 5 min after turning the engine off?

  2. Does flatness matter? If I'm parked on an incline will that affect it? should I always check it on level ground?

Check when flat and wait about 45 minutes after the engine has ceased.
