Making a decision on my first rifle and have it narrowed down to these 2.

I'm leaning toward the Rugar but I really like the reliability Springfield is known for.

Yes I know good luck finding them but when I do I am buying it.

I would like to mention that I am a beginner but not a novice when it comes to firearms. I have shot plenty of times and have been trained in gun safety, but never owned my own.

I have 5000 rounds of 9m ammo. not worried. I have 2x that for my AR. I have full tactical lay out on the AR. however , it sits in the closet - not practical to carry. Range shooting is a waste of time and they only allow limited ammo for range use. Soon. there will be no ammo.

Good, you were smarter than me haha. But wouldn't it be wise to shoot your AR just to shake off the aim 'rust' and keep your gun functional? You dont have to go crazy just shoot a few rounds.

And yes the ammo shortage is really concerning. A Biden presidency is really terrifying. Who knows what bullshit a dem majority congress will pass to limit gun/ammo production.
