Making a decision on my first rifle and have it narrowed down to these 2.

I'm leaning toward the Rugar but I really like the reliability Springfield is known for.

Yes I know good luck finding them but when I do I am buying it.

I would like to mention that I am a beginner but not a novice when it comes to firearms. I have shot plenty of times and have been trained in gun safety, but never owned my own.

Thanks for anyone taking the time to answer.

If you can only get one, my advice is to go with the Mini-14. If anyone ever decides they're actually going to flex back against traitors they're probably going to be doing it with an AR15 in 5.56. The amount of 5.56/.223 out there in everyone's secret stashes is absolutely crude.

This is my thought process as well. The saying shooting .308 is like literally shooting dollar bills is becoming more and more true haha.

Same goes for 5.56/.223 now anyways I guess.

I like the M1, you might have to choose the one that is available first. Check pawn shops and forums for used, it might make the search easier.

Thats good advice I didn't think of pawn shops. But i feel like they are going to try charging 2 grand rather than buying from my local gun shop. Might just have to bite the bullet and pay the price for waiting so long.

They're both good guns but I would go with the M1A

I have both and like them both. Which I would prefer depends on how I plan to use it, but as an all around gun and having to choose, I'd go with the Ruger. Both are reliable, but it's lighter, easier to handle, less expensive to shoot.

Depends what you want it for? What are you going to use it for. Firearms are tools, it needs to fit the usage.

I own and love a mini, but the older models have a gas block and gas port flaw that results in lateral exhaust discharge if not perfectly fitted. It greatly impacts the weapon accuracy and requires a very skilled and knowledgable gunsmith to adjust it properly. I believe the newer models may have corrected this flaw, but the debate goes back and forth if the correction was very effective.

An M1A is a great weapon, but would not be effective in running battles due to loading issues.

Honestly, a milspec AR-15 really is your best budget rifle. You can always upgrade it over time if you choose very cheaply.

The M1 is a quality 308 rifle. Heavier, more recoil, but a reliable rifle. Can do double duty as a scoped hunting rifle for larger game.

Ruger (newer one) is great, but if you are getting an older one you can address some of the issues the platform had with aftermarket parts. But, they are available in a wide range of calibers, most of which are commonly available and are AR15 common as well. So, if you think you may be in a situation where you are sharing ammo... It's a good choice, but avoid the unusual chamberings or you lose this advantage. Nothing wrong with 223.

But, both are good choices. Just depends what you're looking for. Also - how large you are and if you plan to carry it for any length of time. (Factoring a combat load of 308 vs 223, for example, as well as the companion mags. A lot of M1 mags are steel, etc.)

why? it not like you r gona use it

Ok Agent Goldberg get back to chan duty.

I'm asking for peoples opinions because I enjoy shooting and want to have a firearm for property defense if shit hits the fan. Which if you haven't noticed... it is.

i have not noticed. Here in Miami, things seem normal. No protest , Blm, Antifa. Places are packed , restaurants and bars. some mask people. But over all majority not wearing mask.

best line of defense is the 9m with extended clip. I carry. Sig. P320 M18.

Enjoy it. You dont know what a shitshow it is living in a blue state. However i'm sure you will be feeling the ZOG boot as soon as the mandates come down from harris and biden. Then you will understand, like i did why owning a gun is so important.

Hopefully u can learn from my mistake of putting off buying a gun before that happens to you and your home.

Neither, get an AR15 so you have an adaptable platform that can be adjusted to the needs of a situation via lights, lasers, grips, magnifiers, etc

Budget AR-15s are not terribly expensive, and if there's ever a true SHTF scenario you'll want to be using 5.56 like everyone else.

the m1a is heavy.

if you can't get an ar15 (or if you're too much of a Fudd), then get the ruger.
