I watched this recently, and I couldn't ignore that Nash's character was trying to uncover a Soviet Communist plot to attack the United States.
Now, if you just accept the biographical aspects of the plot, then sure, Nash was a genius who had a mental breakdown.
It's possible that the filmmakers simply wanted to make a dramatized version of his life for the sake of a good movie. On the other hand, I couldn't help but feel like the film was almost meant to make anyone referring to Communist conspiracies out to look like a loon.
