I have noticed the "mail icon" is actually a toggle switch. Click it once, you go to the comment the "red mail icon" is telling you to. Click it again, and it toggles over to post replies. So, I think, could be wrong, if someone replies to your post, and you click mail, it will take you to comment that replied to your post. Click it again (it's still red because you forgot to click "mark all as read") and it toggles over to people who have only responded to 1 of your comments somewhere. TRY IT with this comment. It toggles.
NOW if I could just figure out why I can't "save" posts or comments the past 6 days.
