As I understand it, it is make Poal less of an echo chamber.
On Voat people used downvotes to suppress opinions and users they don't like; Poal's attitude towards downvotes is partly a response to how it was used on Voat.
Then not voting is the same as down voting as far as what gets to the front page.
No, a post with 3 upvotes you don't like would become a post with 2 votes and be lower in hot. Downvotes still work, as I replied to someone else. Also, you ignored my other point about how Voat users tended to suppress opposing opinions. Final Wave ex-goats always seem to ignore Voat's echo chamber tendencies when complaining about Poal being an echo chamber.
My point is that all websites that offer the option to vote on content are echo chambers by design. We come here so we don't have to sort through all the bullshit. I am glad shitty opinions get oppressed. If everyone on here turns out to be a faggot and down votes my shit then I will just go somewhere else. I don't post nigger and jew shit (or anything for that matter) to reddit because it's full of faggots.
Does downvoting on poal actually do anything ?
That's a good question. I just assumed it was the same as other voting websites where up voted content gets to the front page and down voted content just sits in new.
Yes, otherwise we'd have a different conversation.
I don't follow. Does downvoting actually have a mechanic coded into the website that penalizes or otherwise affects a user? I understand the points about people replying instead of downvoting.
