Pic8 isn't running bad because of the influx, it's running bad because the admin forced it to become overloaded.
You don't really get how websites work, do you. If a site cannot handle increased traffic, it needs to improve either: 1) The code efficiency, 2) The server hardware. The answer isn't "stop people from using the site so much" lol
Aren't you concerned that a site like Poal relies solely on a single "image hosting" site?
If posts weren't automatically re-uploaded to your site, would you need money to expand?
No it doesn't concern me. It's not mandatory, it's just the default.
The purpose of pic8 is to host images across multiple image hosts. That way, if one or more image hosts go down, the others will still be available. This keeps images around, whether they're censored from a host, or a host goes down.
Pic8 was long overdue for a host upgrade to begin with. The influx simply gave me the motivation
If pic8 goes down for whatever reason, Poal will be devoid of most multimedia content, no? There's still a single point of failure because no matter how many sites host the image, you're the gatekeeper to those links.
Shouldn't the option be to backup content instead of it being "no, don't back it up".
So if users don't put all their eggs in one basket, Pic8 won't be in a rush to upgrade?
