Even if I saw something massively downvoted, I'll still read it (unless I recognize the user and know they post retarded stuff) and if I happen to like it or agree, I will upvote.
This whole push to change the rules is coming from goats who just arrived. It's easy to say "my way is better" when it's what your used to.
Our system encourages dialogue. This whole downvoting thing encourages a reddit-like herd mentality, which is something I hope Voat users will learn to shed after being on this site for a while.

Shall I pretend that armies of shills did not downvote brigade to drive certain current events material from the front page of Voat constantly? As in all day every day? And then sperg upvote their stale years old "funny" articles, etc. over and over to fill the void?
Now we're starting to get into the weeds a bit, because I dont think up vote and down vote should dictate the posts place in line. What if we were to do something that allowed people to change the sort features of the posts. That way if someone wanted to see posts in a sub ranked by votes (whether up or down) they could sort it that way. But that's too much changing stuff around. I would rather just have a system where downvotes have no effect and only serve as a warning to other readers that OP may be retarded.
If there is a downvote option with no consequence, it will be abused by (((The Usual Suspects))).
