If there's no consequence to a downvote, then it doesn't need to exist. If there is a consequence to a downvote, then it will be abused by pussies to suppress dissenting opinions, and promote herd mentality.

I dont think there should be consequences for downvoting...receiving or giving. So yes, Reddit is a bunch of faggots. By I disagree that it doesnt need to exist. The same thing could be said about each one of our comments. There are no real consequences to our comments on here, so you dont think they should exist? I dont follow that logic.
I have no idea how reddit operates though, Voat and now Poal is the only social media I've had in ten years. Or whenever myspace was around.

Lol our comments serve the purpose in us communicating with each other. If downvotes don't do anything then what's the point of them? If they don't filter shit down (suppressing the posts), then they're worthless.
The way this site seems to work, upvotes bring stuff closer to the top. So if you don't upvote something, it will just get passed over by stuff that's more popular.
But, it won't get driven down arbitrarily just because a bunch of spergs and alts downvoted the fuck out of it.
What if votes were weighted? So downvotes from us newbies or known shills have less effect than a downvote from AOU. That way everyone's voice can be considered heard (like I said before, some posts aren't worth the read) but faggots cant sway things
Downvotes also serve the purpose of communicating with others. It saying, hey we read this (hopefully...or know from past experiences OP is a retard) and we thought it deserved a downvote. Meaning it was worse than just being neutral and not voting.
Of course shills can start a downvote brigade and make people think the OP is retarded, but I don't think it should necessarily dictate where it is in line (as far as posts) And people should be willing to think for themselves enough to ignore downvote brigades.
