Not much else to add here.

Is suicide permissible if only certain types of people do it? Does it not matter who does it, it's always fine morally? Is it always immoral no matter the situation?

Edit: I'm not suicidal at all, just wondering how you all view the subject from a moral standpoint.

Agreed. My only child committed suicide. Depressed, multiple medical issues. Mensa member since age 10, computer geek on many boards helping many people, and working with like minded people from many countries on projects. If I told you what projects, I'd dox myself. When his friends disclosed some of the projects, his (not very close) family was shocked. Based on recent research, I suspect he had brain inflamation, which no doctor checked for. Brought lifelong grief to his many friends, associates, and particularly me. Their souls don't go to heaven right away, they go to a place the Catholics call "purgatory". It has negative connotations, but appears to be like a doctor's waiting room. But the doctor "isn't ready for you yet". A place where they get to figure out what they missed in this life. Observe others. See the struggles others are having because they aren't there to do the job God gave them for their time on earth. Punishment? Not like hitting or screaming at someone. But seeing what you were destined to do, and the hard time others are having because your particular skills are no long there must be heartbreaking to them. I'm pretty sure he was supposed to play a big part in the anon world of the Great Awakening. So I go from grieving to being really pissed off. I can't even look at his picture, because I still cry. I love him and miss him so much.

Good point about the brain inflammation - doctors really dont know what they're doing -- I think I went through something similar, but I think God gave me a hand out of...I sorry to hear the pain you've been through; honestly I have faith in God that he is all loving and forgiving - Gods ways are a mystery. Sorry for your loss. That really, really sucks. I know my words don't mean shit, but I truly am sorry this happened. A good friend of mines son killed himself after he got out of the military and it crushed him. Now my buddy can't even hold down a job because he sought drug use to ease the pain and now he is lost and just waiting to die. It's just all around shitty what suicide does to the people that are left behind.

Thanks. If I had thought to school him on how it would affect all of us, he might have had second thoughts. But maybe not, I suspect that even if he delayed his decision, it would have happened later if a solution wasn't found. He was in such emotional pain, and it was obvious to everyone.
