No you are not, that's absolutely correct. I don't think there is any way to "search" for a particular user, if you don't know the user's exact name.
That's probably by design, it's something would be able to answer with more clarity.

Oh no, I know their name. It’s just that over at voat, v/niggers, there was a “where he at” search feature. It was only on that sub verse iirc.
