The 1994 "crime" bill created a system of computer background checks. The paper form where you register your purchase at the dealer began with the 1968 "Gun Control Act", which completely eliminated violent crime from the country. Read your history books to see what a violence ridden hell-hole this country was before 1968.

High schools had shooting classes. Guys would take guns in their cars to high school so they could go hunting after school. The US had marksmanship programs with surplus guns available at a discount (it still exists, but it's nearly what it once was.)

Best way these days is to get a set of plates from 5D Tactical or similar and cut your own lowers. Then assemble your own rifle/pistol/whatever. No serial no background check no waiting period etc. It's the only way to fly.
