I spent over 5 years at Voat, only to have it pulled out from under me. I watched as some in the voat community were absolutely horrible to Reddit refugees, now here we are, refugees.

I would prefer not to go through this again.

and I have invested our own time (almost 3 years) and money and with the help of some generous poalr bears here (they will recognize themselves).

Boobs is managing donations:

No 3 letter agencies have been involved ever:

For posterity, do you have any type of relationship with Jason Lucas? His bots are all over your site.

[–] 7 pts

No idea who that is.

His bots are all over your site.

Poal has a public API, so having bots is expected.

Not only his bots, but his staff as well. They are data miners running psychological "tests" on your users.

One of the admins on his main site...

Knowing is half the battle.

To hiijack the top comment, Puttitout was lying when he said money was the issue.

If you're donating your time you can run a fairly high traffic website for ~$100 a month. It's mostly serving html which is basically just a bit of text, bandwidth and full time employees is where the significant costs come in. I'm not saying poal or voat cost this amount to run, just that it's possible.

If he had the will to keep voat running there was certainly more than enough money available from donations to cover reasonable costs and have a bit left over for his pocket.

Yeah, I would of easily given that jew $100 to keep voat going.

Nope. Between Azure and Cloudflare it was costing 20K+ per month to keep VOAT running. And a previous attempt at fundraising had only moderate success, not enough to keep it running for more than a few months.

I saw the claim made on Ruqqus that Putt had a couple million stashed away and could easily fund the site. Total BS.

$20k/yr sounds about right for a site like voat. Not that I havn't seen people pay $20k/mo, for less. If that's really what putt was paying, then it makes sense that the angel pulled out and no one would finance his train wreck.

I take credit for ending the longest streak of not releasing a Poal Canary 😂
