I spent over 5 years at Voat, only to have it pulled out from under me. I watched as some in the voat community were absolutely horrible to Reddit refugees, now here we are, refugees.

I would prefer not to go through this again.

and I have invested our own time (almost 3 years) and money and with the help of some generous poalr bears here (they will recognize themselves).

Boobs is managing donations:

No 3 letter agencies have been involved ever:

For posterity, do you have any type of relationship with Jason Lucas? His bots are all over your site.

[–] 7 pts

No idea who that is.

His bots are all over your site.

Poal has a public API, so having bots is expected.

[–] 9 pts

Not only his bots, but his staff as well. They are data miners running psychological "tests" on your users.

One of the admins on his main site...

Knowing is half the battle.

To hiijack the top comment, Puttitout was lying when he said money was the issue.

If you're donating your time you can run a fairly high traffic website for ~$100 a month. It's mostly serving html which is basically just a bit of text, bandwidth and full time employees is where the significant costs come in. I'm not saying poal or voat cost this amount to run, just that it's possible.

If he had the will to keep voat running there was certainly more than enough money available from donations to cover reasonable costs and have a bit left over for his pocket.

[–] 1 pt

Yeah, I would of easily given that jew $100 to keep voat going.

[–] 0 pt

Nope. Between Azure and Cloudflare it was costing 20K+ per month to keep VOAT running. And a previous attempt at fundraising had only moderate success, not enough to keep it running for more than a few months.

I saw the claim made on Ruqqus that Putt had a couple million stashed away and could easily fund the site. Total BS.

$20k/yr sounds about right for a site like voat. Not that I havn't seen people pay $20k/mo, for less. If that's really what putt was paying, then it makes sense that the angel pulled out and no one would finance his train wreck.

I take credit for ending the longest streak of not releasing a Poal Canary 😂

donations, no paypal either which seems to be a good thing these days.

i wouldn't be surprised if you lose your other payment services soon though.

Is that a capital i or an L?

I'm not pulling some weird prank; all the links are valid.

Poal is owned by Putt. It will get sold like Voat when the sheep penn is full.

Well Poal seems a little more polished than Voat was...

Shame we couldn't have made Voat better.

[–] 2 pts

I have a theory.

owns a faggotbar and both and are regulars there.

I'm fairly certain both of them have stalls in the bathroom named for each of them.

They use the proceeds earned in said stalls to pay for poal.

[–] 2 pts

Look man don't talk about my stall unless you have tried it first.

[–] 2 pts

Fairly accurate. But don't forget about the money from renting it to jews to

Good question. I know I thought originally that voat was a honeypot for the CIA due to no advertising or revenue channel. It didn't make sense for people to spend so many resources keeping a website up without value coming in.

I believe people will donate anonymously if possible. It's not obvious how to contribute using crypto currency for many people yet. I will write a post on how to do it safely. I believe learning how to use crypto currency is a valuable skill today.

I appreciate the effort that goes into running a site like poal. You are doing something very worthwhile.

Don't question things like, How Poal Funds Itself. Just use this wonderful service until one day, with little or no warning, the rug gets jerked out from under you and Poal is no more. Then just move on to another site, rinse and repeat. That's the Voat way.

The FBI is giving us funding. Or no wait. It's the CIA. Sorry. Thanks, CIA.

Good, glad to see you're aware that Poal is no different than Voat.

Imagine if PMYB2 and Co had instead had put effort into a decentralized platform for the past few years, instead of another HTTP site that's vulnerable to all the same issues as Voat.

I've found that if you try to talk to people about something that's not vulnerable to these issues, you're told to Fuck Off, Spamming Shill! I'm not installing anything, Nigga! - Meanwhile they're fucking DLing the latest version of Chrome or Firefox every other day on their Windows 10 PC.
