Even if it were possible to genetically engineer for resistance or straight up immunity to all diseases and afflictions? Increased strength, intelligence and physical endurance. Engineered for higher survivability in hostile environments or higher/lower gravity environments, how about eliminating the need for sleep (as we know it).

Maybe it depends how one defines "transhumanism" to start with. It's a concept I haven't we really heard of or paid attention to in a long while. The Chinese thing is neat though I wonder how far someone could actually go with it. If the base of transhumanism is eugenics, and eugenics is right wing, then I would think that in some lights "transhumanism" would be considered right wing. Great reply, I totally agree that the textbook definition of transhumanism (whether cybernetic or genetic) does seem to apply to the rights concept of self improvement, only I feel staunch traditionalists and humancentrics(purists)would see both as a form of cheating, or shortcut. I suppose it comes down to how said technologies are used, to better mankind or to oppress it, that determines which side of the political/social dichotomy transhumanism is situated on.

Space travel was considered science fiction in the 1800's and although much of what is portrayed in science fiction today is out of the realm of reality, it may not be such forever.

I didn't mean to come off as saying the topic was silly or not at all interesting, or couldn't be discussed ever, but in the same sense that space travel was meaningless to people in the 1800's, outside of the hypothetical, I don't think transhumanism will ever mean much to anyone living today. So maybe attributing it to being "right" or "left" is the wrong way to look at it, as you wouldn't consider the "concept", or science, of space travel to be "right wing" or "left wing".
