On Christmas morning (when I was young), my dad would say something like "I think I heard Santa walking on the roof last night. But then I also heard a thud, so I think he might have dropped a present. Let's go check!" So I would run outside and look, and sure enough there would be a stray present on the roof. My dad would go retrieve it and act like he didn't know how it got there. It was a cute and clever touch of holiday "magic"

This isn't mine but something I heard once. A guy would do something similar, but instead of a random present he'd fling dog poop onto the roof and claim it was reindeer droppings.
