Vortex and Holosun make decent red dots for the price. I have a vortex spark AR2 on one of mine and a vortex strikefire with the 3x magnifier on another. I've had no issues.
What's your price range and what are you intending to do? Close quarters stuff or accurate long-ish range stuff?
I'd say couple hundo, probably more close quarters based on my location...something highly functional from up close to about 100yds..(If that makes sense)
Hard to beat the price point of the Sig Romeo 5. Can routinely find them on sale for $120ish. Might be slightly more now with the Rona. Great for up close but will suck the further out you go.
As other users have posted the Aimpoint PRO is a very good red dot suitable for close in work and perfectly reasonable for 100 yard shots. It's big enough you could put a magnifier behind it if you wanted. If you really shop deals you can get them for around $350 but most likely $400ish.
Holosun also makes a bunch of good red dots but I don't have experience with them. Pretty sure they're the OEM for the Romeo above and they make the guts of a lot of other red dots on the market.
Lots of handy info
Ainpoint patrol rifle optic if you want a really robust red dot or a sig bravo 3x or 5x if you're looking for a fairly good low magnification prism optic.
Magpul, Magpul, Magpul. The flip up iron sights are the best. I have some fixed sights from DD but although they aren't bad they aren't ideal unless you just want a red dot. If you're getting a scope you better have flip ups or you're screwed. If you're looking for a red dot then Holosun makes some decent ones at a good price, if you want a good priced scope then Vortex is good. Depends on how you want to configure the weapon. I highly suggest you get a 2 point sling, vertical grip, back up iron sights, streamlight or surefire flash light and some sort of optic.
It came with flip up irons, I have a vertical, grip, but I'm now in the market for a sling and optics, I'm leaning towards a red dot...flashlight be later down the road
Okay, Magpul and other companies make good 2 point slings. I went with Magpul because it's simple and affordable but there are many good ones. I picked a streamlight flash light with an Arisaka mount. If you want a red dot investigate some of the higher end Holosun ones for good product with a good price. If you want to spend more then get an Aimpoint or perhaps an EO Tech (I have mixed feelings on them). You can even add a 3x magnifier if you want but I feel that there are drawbacks on magnifiers.
Primary arms has good tough red dots and scopes that are quite affordable. Vortex is good stuff as well. Otherwise it's aimpoint or Trijicon. They get some hate but I also like EOtech. If you need a sling I have a few of these and for about $20 I've not found anything better. https://www.redi-mag.com/product/2p-tactical-quick-adjustable-sling/
For affordable red dot Sig Romeo 5 is the go to these days.
Burris RT-6 1-6x if you want a scope.
I have both and no complaints, both pretty impressive for how cheap they are.
Honestly, I would get good with the irons first. I actually prefer irons.
However, I suspect that's not going to be what you want to hear, so I'll recommend a 1-6 LVPO power scope. The US military is in the process of switching to LPVOs from the various shit they use.
Primary Arms has one for about $400, but you need a mount too.
I would skip red dots. I don't really think they are that much better then some good irons.
keep in mind with biden in office you will have to pay $800 a year to keep it unless of course you want a felony but if you are a crimminal or want to go out with a bang that is your call.
