I read this post mainly due to the question so let me offer this song. I posted it a while ago but I found it not only as an example of her lifetime of talent but also the message of the lyrics. It's a remix of Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now. After 50 years of writing and composing, the maturity of her voice and life experiences, I think it stands as a fine example of what we have already discussed about vocals and also lyrical content. Her phrasing in this is so appealing.

Good song.

I admit I'm biased when it comes to Joni. She was my hippie girl crush back in the 60's, Her life story is both sad and beautiful, and she stumbled through and contributed so much to music. She had a lot of fellow musician boyfriends (Our House was about her and Graham Nash), wrote Woodstock although she wasn't there, and countless other popular songs. I compiled an article for Both Sides Now but purposefully left out the story of her daughter Kelly as it seemed a little too personal. Her song "Little Green" deals with it, and I admire her openness and courage to do what she felt was best for her daughter.

And sometimes there'll be sorrow

Sorry, I get a little stirred up thinking about a few artists that have touched my life and she's right there at the top.
