I actually have done this except I used gasoline instead of kerosene, it made a very large boom I was 14 and stupid.

Gasoline works too but since it's the vapor that lights, it can be a lot more dangerous to the operator. Kerosene is an oil, so it stays (more or less) where you put it.

If you can do it right, kerosene will boil-explode and make a lovely mushroom cloud.

If this is true, I'm kind of curious to try it. I'd have to find someplace out in the country though I doubt I'd get away with it in the city.

I played with petrol under the house when I was ten. (house is on fore foot stilts with sand under it, was in ozy) was trying to napalm my toy soldiers and poured some petrol out of a cup onto a naked flame. The flame went into the cup and all over my hands and jumped onto my head. I put the flame out by ploughing sand over my head but I burnt all the hair off my fringe. I went inside and cut my fringe and it looked ridiculous, I told my dad that I was running up the path and slipped on the concrete step and he believed me. Then I grew a huge green puss filled scab on my forehead.
