Well, you see, back during the great Thistle War of 1923, Great-Grandpa Abner went into the city via what would eventually be Route 99. Along the way, he stopped by the Sponoca Gasoline Station where Fatina's Doughnut and Grease Shoppe is today. Anyway, when he stopped there, the price listed for 1 gallon of gasoline was 12 9/10 cents. That was highway robbery then, just like it is now. But Abner had no choice, so he filled up the car with gasoline and handed a dollar to the attendant. Back then, dollars were bigger than they are now, so he got more change than if you'd make that same purchase today. But what happened over the years is the dollars got smaller, so things cost more. And that's why we have inflation - all because Abner didn't fill up the car back at the corner gas station like he should have.
