I also find it strange that there was so little talk about the whistle blower. I don't know how much of the truth we're getting, or how much of what we're getting is the truth. It looks kind of like the other story was a warning shot. Maybe they'll get back to it later. But I'd say the message wasn't primarily intended for the general public. It show's they're willing to get crazier than what we're seeing now. It shows they're willing to bring the military into it. Maybe it's just a message for some people to not interfere. Maybe it's a road-map that shows where we're headed (for those who know how to read it).
